MK Breakers Men’s team were looking to end the year with another win on Saturday evening, playing their final game of 2025 as they welcomed Derby Trailblazers to Bletchley Leisure Centre.
The visitors were looking to bounce back from their defeat to Newcastle Knights, while the home side were seeking their third win in a row after claiming victories over Worthing Bears and Bristol Flyers.
But it would be the Blazers who struck the first blow, jumping out to a 9-0 lead and forcing Breakers to take an early timeout. That allowed them to regain composure and find their way back into the game behind Jordan Spencer, the Captain making it clear he was ready for the battle with opposing guards Connor Washington and Jai Pathmarajah.
Throughout the rest of the first quarter and all the way to half time, Breakers would hit shot after shot, going into the interval with a 21-point lead. Blazers would cut into that with a strong third quarter, but the fourth saw a long range barrage from the home side who would hit no fewer than 18 threes on the night. That was ultimately enough to secure the win, a final score of 96-73 reflective of a Breakers performance that saw them hold Derby to 40% shooting from the field and allow them just seven offensive rebounds.
Chase Thompson went 6/11 from three to lead all scorers with 21, while Jordan Spencer ended the contest with 15 points, four rebounds and seven assists. The other three starters – Jonas Dieterich, Xavier Wilson and Dashawn Jackson – would each weigh in with ten points, everyone playing their part in a resounding win.
“This was another game that saw us take steps in the right direction,” said a delighted Breakers Head Coach Ben Stanley. “To do that against a team like Derby who have had some good wins of their own recently shows what we’re capable of when we stick to the game plan.
“I know there’s still so much more to come from this group if we keep doing that, especially in front of our supporters who were great tonight. But it’s great to end the year having turned in some good performances and be on a winning run going into the Christmas break.”
Breakers return to action in 2026 with away trips to Hemel Storm and Yorkshire Dragons, before coming home to Bletchley Leisure Centre on January 17 when they take on Loughborough Riders. Tickets for that clash are available here.
