Young inventors in Milton Keynes are being challenged to design a futuristic home appliance

To celebrate Morphy Richards’ 85th anniversary, budding young inventors in Milton Keynes are being challenged to design a useful home appliance that is fit for the future.

The competition is open to primary school aged children between 4-11 years old.

The best designs will be selected by a judging panel for the  winners will receive vouchers to spend in the Science Museum’s online gift shop.

To help children get their creative juices flowing, Morphy Richards has teamed up with CBeebies presenter Grace Webb, from Grace’s Amazing Machines, to create an online toolkit to spark their imagination and take them through the creative process step by step.

CBeebies presenter Grace Webb said: “This is a fantastic chance for children to let their imagination run free and create something that could really be helpful in everyone’s homes in the future.

"I can’t wait to hear what you come up with. Good luck!”

Andreas FredrikssonCategory Director Home, at Morphy Richards, said: “We’ve come up with so many innovative products during our 85-year history but we’re keen to hear from any budding young inventors about what they think will be the most useful appliances around the home in years to come.

"Your Appliance of the Future could be helpful in the kitchen, make cleaning up quicker or could be something that makes chores simpler. Whatever your idea is, we want to hear from you.”

Laura Southall, Head of Learning at the Science Museum, said: “From making a quick cup of tea to cooking and ironing clothes, innovations in household appliances have shaped many aspects of our daily routines.

"But as well as looking back through the history of these technologies, it’s important to look to the future and imagine the technologies that can help us tomorrow. We can’t wait to see what amazing inventions you create.”
