World-famous Flying Scotsman to pass through Milton Keynes today

The Flying Scotsman, a world-famous steam locomotive, will be passing through Milton Keynes this evening (18/5).

The iconic locomotive was built in 1923 at Doncaster Works, costing £7,944.

It soon became internationally recognised in 1934 for officially becoming the first locomotive to reach 100mph. The Flying Scotsman also holds the world record for a non-stop run in a steam locomotive, which was set in 1989 with a 442-mile trip.

The Flying Scotsman has since been travelling across the world, being the star of many exhibitions.

Today, it has taken off on its journey from Carnforth in Lancashire and is travelling all the way down to Southall in London.

Train enthusiasts have taken to social media to share videos and photos of the locomotive passing through the North of the country, and it will soon be passing through Milton Keynes.

The Flying Scotsman will pass through Wolverton at 18:30, Milton Keynes Central at 18:33, Denbigh Hall North Junction at 18:35, Denbigh Hall South Junction at 18:36, and Bletchley Station at 18:37. The train will stop at Bletchley for one minute, before passing through to Water Eaton Road and Drayton Road shortly after.

Train enthusiasts are encouraged to find a good spot on a nearby bridge and get their cameras at the ready to make sure they don't miss it.
