Works will be carried out to 'reduce localised flooding' in Milton Keynes

It has been announced that drainage works will be carried out to reduce 'localised flooding' in certain areas.

Some towns and villages in Milton Keynes suffered severe flooding in December.

Priory Street in Newport Pagnell was especially affected when the River Ouse rose so much that it overwhelmed the Victorian drains during the Christmas 2020 storm.

Since then, Lib Dem Councillors have been calling on Milton Keynes Council to "demand focus" on solving the issue of flooding.

Milton Keynes Council has today (18/2) stated that works will be carried out over the next few weeks "to help improve drainage and reduce localised flooding on the highway".

The highways teams will be starting with a section of the H3 Monks Way.

A spokesperson for Milton Keynes Council explained: "From 16 - 19 February we will be cutting back hedges to access the ditches. There will be a diversion in place whilst we do this along the H4 Dansteed Way.

"From 22 – 25 February we will continue the vegetation clearance so the road will be closed during the day along Willen Road heading into Newport Pagnell.

"Landscape area 3 into Newport will be closed only during the day to traffic entering Newport Pagnell and open in the evening.

"We will also be closing the eastbound section of the H3 here between 1 - 2 March to clean the road gullies. The gully tanker will jet clean and check the road gullies to make sure they are free of obstacles.

"The roundabout gullies will be cleaned between 3-4 March and it may be necessary to close one lane whilst we do this."
