Works to highlight new speed limit in area of Milton Keynes are almost complete

The recent change across much of Wolverton means a maximum speed of 20mph is now in place.

The reduction follows a request submitted to Milton Keynes City Council, supported by a petition created by resident Victoria Measures, which was signed by almost 100 local residents.

The change excludes Stratford Road, Old Wolverton, and Stratford Park.

“I started the petition because the roads in Wolverton are very narrow Victorian residential streets, with cars parked on both sides, so only one vehicle can pass at a time,” said the blogger behind victorias-vintage.co.uk, “Cars often drive far too fast, particularly on Windsor Street, which is frequently used as a cut-through.

“With a primary school located along the road, a reduced speed limit will help make the area safer for residents, pedestrians and cyclists,” she said.

A spokesperson for MKCC told MKFM: “Milton Keynes City Council carried out an informal consultation on proposals to reduce the speed limit on residential roads in Wolverton from 30mph to 20mph in May 2025.

“This was in direct response to a request from the Wolverton & Greenleys Town Council and a petition from residents due to concerns over speeding vehicles.

“The formal public consultation took place last summer and on 5 September, the new speed limit came into effect.

“We've already carried out most of the works to show that the streets included are now 20mph with some final works on the illuminated signs taking place over the next few weeks.”
