A woman has been jailed for perverting the course of justice in connection with the murder of John Davies in October 2023.
The sentence follows an investigation by Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit,
Bethany Coyle, 29, appeared at Aylesbury Crown Court yesterday (21/01) where she was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
Coyle had previously pleaded guilty to one count of committing an act or series of acts with intent to pervert the course of public justice at the same court on July 1.
John Davies was 34-years-old when he was assaulted by Wesley Atick in the underpass between Groveway and Newport Road in Wavendon Gate on 23 October 2023. He died in hospital three days later.
Coyle, who was in a relationship with Atick at the time, disposed of his clothing and mobile phone at a flat in Buxton Close, after he committed the assault.
She was arrested three days later and charged by postal requisition on 30 May last year.
Atick was jailed to life in prison, with a minimum term of 15 years, at Oxford Crown Court in May 2024.
“I am pleased that this sentence today means that Coyle will now face the consequences of her extremely serious actions," said Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Will Crowther, “The support she provided to Atick by getting rid of his clothing and phone meant that key evidence in a murder enquiry was disposed of and never recovered.
“This is an appalling case of perverting the course of justice, which made our investigation more challenging.
"Coyle’s actions have brought even more suffering onto a grieving family. I sincerely hope that this sentence today provides John’s family with more answers about what happened in the period after his death, and helps them begin to move forward with their lives.”
