Woman completes wheelchair marathon around Milton Keynes shopping centre

Sharon Mynard has completed the 26-mile challenge around the centre:mk in memory of her friend who died of a brain tumour.

Sharon, who is confined to a wheelchair, bonded with her friend Rory Gilsenan over their love of horses.

Rory was diagnosed with brain cancer in November 2018, and he "battled it with the most amazing Irish determination that anyone possible could".

He sadly passed away, and Sharon set herself the challenge of completing a wheelchair marathon to raise funds and awareness of brain tumours - which are the biggest cancer killers of children and adults under 40.

Before starting the challenge, Sharon said: "Having followed Rory's treatment and illness closely, I felt I could do more. On looking into brain cancer more I couldn't believe how many people are affected, and how little funding there is into the research for this type of cancer.

"Hence my taking this on, if I can just do a little bit to help aid research and spare another family the agony of losing a loved one, then the pain, sore hands etc I am about to put myself through will be totally worth it."

Sharon had been pushing her way around the centre:mk and completed the challenge on Sunday morning having raised over £7,000 for Brain Tumour Research.

Donations are continuing to roll in, and it looks like Sharon could soon reach her £10,000 fundraising target. If you would like to donate, please click here
