Willen Hospice launches leap year appeal to fund extra day of care for families in Milton Keynes

With leap day on the horizon, Willen Hospice is embarking on a heartfelt appeal to the community, seeking support to raise an additional £16,175 to fund an extra day of care for individuals and families in need.

As the hospice prepares to extend its specialist care and support for an extra day this leap year, they are turning to the generosity of the community for assistance. With only 15% of costs met by ongoing NHS funding, the hospice is dependent on local support and is reaching out to rally the community to help them provide an extra 24 hours of care for those who need it most.

"At Willen Hospice, every moment counts," says Jackie Young, Associate Director of Nursing at the hospice. “We provide essential care, support and comfort for patients who may be spending their final weeks or days with loved ones. This leap year, with an extra day of care to provide, we have an extraordinary opportunity to do even more. But we need the support of our community."

Specialist palliative care services at Willen Hospice are provided free of charge to patients every day of the year. However, the cost of providing care for a single day amounts to a staggering £16,175. With only 15% of costs covered by regular NHS funding, and no allowance for the extra day this year, the hospice relies heavily on the generosity of the community to bridge the gap.

"We're asking our community to take a leap of love and donate what they can to help us support local families in need," adds Jackie. "Every donation, regardless of its size, directly impacts the lives of those who depend on our services. Whether it's providing specialist end-of-life care in patients' homes or offering counselling to bereaved partners, your support helps us make every moment count."

Supporters interested in contributing to Willen Hospice's leap year appeal can donate through the website here. Every donation brings them closer to their goal of providing an extra day of care and support to those who need it most.
