Why do you love Milton Keynes?

Time to say why the city has a place in your heart.

Milton Keynes residents have another chance to tell everyone why they love their city so much.

Called LoveMK Day, it’s the creation of tourist information service Destination MK and asks people once a year, to use the #LoveMK hashtag to announce which part of Milton Keynes really make them tick.

And more than just seeing the hashtag in people’s posts, Destination MK would love to see pictures of the hashtag baked into cakes, used on pizzas, sewn into clothes, added into flower displays and any other way the clever people of MK can think of.

“After more than a decade of #LoveMK Day, the support shown for the day still surprises us,” says, Carys Underwood Destination MK Marketing Manager. “Everyone wants to get involved and you can at any level. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture, just use the hashtag when you post on socials that day.

“But if you want to bring out your creative side and post a photo, that would be amazing or if your business wanted to create a special offer just for that day, then we’ll help get it out there – just get involved and help spread the #LoveMK.”

It’s estimated that across the 13 years the hashtag reach is more than 35 million, with it being used more than 100,000 times.

So what will you post about Milton Keynes? A few words or just a picture of something fabulous about the great city is what organisers are looking for. Here are some of the great things about MK that might inspire you to take part:

Getting around – the road network is well known because of its grid system and lack of traffic lights. But cycling is a pleasure too thanks to the Redways.

Easy to connect – you’re not far away from other locations. Luton Airport is only 40 minutes away, London is an hour’s drive down the M1 and places such as Oxford, Cambridge, Northampton, Bedford and Peterborough are easy to get to.

Surrounded by parkland – it’s a busy city but Milton Keynes has plenty of open green space, thanks to its parks such as Campbell Park, and some wide, attractive lakes.

Family centre – schools, colleges and nurseries around Milton Keynes usually received high scores in education. And the largely peaceful neighbourhoods make them ideal for young people to grow up in.

Full of culture – an array of art galleries, theatres and cinemas help to keep Milton Keynes top of the bill when it comes to the arts and culture.

Groups and clubs – with such as thriving community spirit it’s no surprise to know that the city has hundreds of clubs, charities and associations to get involved with, help others or just find friendship.

Strong economy – Milton Keynes has a thriving economy, built by successful businesses who work together in a network, supporting each other. It means jobs and opportunities are widely available.

Food and drink – there are hundreds of fabulous bars, restaurants and cafes in Milton Keynes with a vast array of cuisines to suit all tastes.

Sports and hobbies – from football to skiing, watersports to running, the city has facilities, venues, clubs and associations.

Shopping – with one of the largest shopping centres in the UK, it’s no surprise that Milton Keynes is a leader when it comes to retail therapy.

History – many parts of Milton Keynes, such as Olney, Newport Pagnell and Stony Stratford are steeped in history which has a lasting effect on the community. And there are plenty of museums to help share the stories.
