Weather warning issued for Milton Keynes ahead of Storm Goretti's arrival

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for Milton Keynes ahead of the imminent arrival of Storm Goretti.

It is likely to bring heavy snow leading to disruption and difficult travelling conditions later today (Thurs) and into tomorrow, and people are being advised to plan for the adverse weather and drop in temperatures, and to avoid unecessary travel.

Snow is forecast between 5pm this evening and midday tomorrow.

Network Rail is advising of potential disruption.

In a statement, it said: 'Snow and ice can make it difficult for trains to run safely. In very cold weather, snow and ice can build up on the tracks blocking points, the equipment that allows trains to move between tracks.

'Ice can coat the overhead power cables, preventing trains from drawing the power they need to run and leaving them stranded. Icicles on tunnels, bridges and other structures can also damage trains and overhead power cables.'
