Emma Reynolds MP, Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, recently visited the Rowans Family Centre in Fullers Slade.
Milton Keynes’ North Labour MP Chris Curtis, along with MK City Councillors joined her to view the new newly planted Mini Forest.
It is one of many tree planting schemes being delivered across MK to increase biodiversity with a variety of wild flowers to attract and support wildlife.
It also offers a community space for outdoor play and gardening activities run by the Family Centre, one of 10 popular facilities funded and run by the City Council.
The site is situated in the Fullers Slade community-led regeneration area – one of several priority sites across the city where the council are addressing high deprivation, poor housing quality, and lower life expectancies.
“It’s an honour to plant a tree here at the Rowans Family Centre’s new Mini Forest garden, thanks to our Labour council making sure that family centres and tree planting schemes across the city are properly funded," said Emma Reynolds MP, Environment Secretary.
“We know that early support for families can truly improve children’s life chances, and that community gardens can make a real difference to people and wildlife. We’re committed to ensuring that communities have the facilities they need for everyone to take pride in their local area and to thrive.”
Chris Curtis MP for Milton Keynes North added: “I know from residents that cost of living continues to be a real challenge for families, especially during the school holidays. So our Labour City Council’s continued support for family centres and community spaces, backed by our Labour government, is wonderful to see.”
