Fans of an iconic children’s book are in for a treat as The Very Hungry Caterpillar lantern takes centre stage as part of the Land of Lights festival in Milton Keynes.
The world’s most famous caterpillar from Eric Carle’s best-selling book has been brought to life at the event taking place at Gulliver’s Resort in the city which is open now and runs until 25 February 2024.
Since first being published in 1969, more than 55 million copies of The Very Hungry Caterpillar have been sold and the book has been translated into more than 65 languages.
Darren Hoy, Land of Lights festival manager, said: “We are thrilled our visitors can enjoy a magical journey with The Very Hungry Caterpillar which has truly been brought to life with our special lantern which is lighting up the night’s sky.
“The Very Hungry Caterpillar joins a host of much-loved characters and scenes from classic children’s literature and our visitors so far are really enjoying the spectacular spectacle the festival is bringing to Milton Keynes. It’s most definitely even bigger and better than last year!”

Land of Lights features numerous lanterns and displays that are even bigger and better than last year. It boasts a one-mile-long wonderland of illuminations from popular and much-loved characters and scenes including The Three Little Pigs, Dr Doolittle, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Wizard of Oz, The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan to name just a few.
More than 100 people are involved in the hand-crafted production process for Land of Lights, undertaken by the American-owned Zigong Lantern Group, an award-winning custom designer and manufacturer of handcrafted lamp art.
