Tree planting ceremony at new Oxley Park Academy campus

Senior staff and students from the school attended the special tree planting ceremony on Thursday to mark the beginning of the Year 6 pupils' annual legacy project.

The Principal, Senior Leadership team, Head Boy & Head Girl, along with children from the MADD Group ("Make A Difference Day‟ Group) attended the special tree planting ceremony on Thursday 17th November to mark the beginning of the development of a new campus at Shenley Wood!

Throughout this year, the children in Year 6 will be working with the Principal, as well as Willmott Dixon (the builders), Milton Keynes Local Authority and the design teams, to enhance and enrich the educational environment at the Shenley Wood campus to make sure that it is an extension of this school, OPA @ Shenley Wood, not a new school, but retains all that the children love about what happens on the current campus – our vision, traditions, motto, ethos and values, whilst enhancing provision for children on both sites.

The first step to this was the planning and delivery of the tree planting ceremony. Cathy Higgins, the Principal, had spoken to the children about the layout of the new campus and explained that she hoped to have a city farm developed in the grounds and that the developers wanted to gift the school an oak tree to go near that area. They talked about how the oak tree could become a symbol of the growth of OPA and commitment to the future, something that would be there long after they had all gone.

The children decided that it would be a story oak where pupils - and staff - could have time for quiet reflection and enjoy nature; a place to share stories and sit together in harmony.
