Dozens of people attend Trans Rights peaceful protest in Milton Keynes

Over 60 people took to Station Square in Central Milton Keynes yesterday (5/7) for a Trans Rights peaceful protest.

Protestors gathered in solidarity to stand against the Government dropping their plans to allow people to legally change their gender without a medical diagnosis.

Rather than allowing transgender people to change their gender on their birth certificate, in its place would be a statutory declaration, based on ‘self-identification’.

The socially distanced protest saw three transgender speakers, including the event organiser Joanne, tell of their experiences. Read the transcripts here.

Speaking at the protest, Joanne said the Government's plans are an "attack on my rights as a trans woman, an attack on my trans brothers and sisters’ rights and an attack all of those who do not conform to a particular gender".

Those who attended were photographed holding signs which read  "trans rights are human rights", "black trans lives matter" and "protect trans kids".

This is one of the various protests that have taken place in Milton Keynes since lockdown began. So far, there have been multiple Black Lives Matter protests and an anti-5G protest led by Piers Corbyn.
