Total number of positive COVID-19 cases in Milton Keynes drops as Government changes the way it records data

The total number of local COVID-19 cases have dropped slightly today (18/5) as the Government has changed the way it records data.

Public Health England has revised its recording of historical case data, meaning that 4,776 nationwide cases have been removed from the system.

This is because these cases were from a positive rapid lateral flow test, but these people also had a negative laboratory PCR test within three days. The PCR tests are known to be more reliable than the lateral flow tests.

As a result, 28 cases have been removed from Milton Keynes' COVID-19 total. A further 13 positive COVID-19 cases have been added to the system today.

This means that before the revision, there were 20,246 cases but this now stands at 20,231.

50 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the past week, and the infection rate, or case rate, stands at 21.5 cases per 100,000 people.

This is lower than the national average of 22 cases per 100,000 people.

Nationally, there was an additional 2,412 people tested positive today, with 7 deaths within 28 days of a positive test.

These deaths did not take place in Milton Keynes, meaning the city's total COVID-linked death toll still stands at 463 since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, 36,811,405 people have now had a first dose of the vaccine and 20,546,452 have been given a second dose across the country.
