A planning application has placed the iconic Stables theatre in Wavendon under threat.
The deadline is fast approaching to help preserve the future of one of Milton Keynes’ most famous cultural attractions. The Stables in Wavendon claims that its future is under threat because of plans to develop land, to include over 100 houses and retail space close to the historic venue.
Venue bosses believe that inevitable noise complaints from new residents could ultimately result in the closure of the theatre. The outline planning for the development of the land was granted by Milton Keynes Council in 2017 but, thanks to strong representations from the public and business community, certain restrictions were put in place to limit potential damage to The Stables.
The applicants, Abbey Development Ltd, are now appealing some of these restrictions which the venue claims places their operation back under threat. A petition started by venue owners urging the council to reject the application has already received over 20,000 signatures, and the deadline to sign the petition is tomorrow.
