Thunderstorm warning in force across Milton Keynes following extreme heat

    The Met Office

The Met Office has issued another warning, but this time it is for thunderstorms.

A yellow warning is in place across Milton Keynes and across England as The Met Office predicts thunderstorms. It comes after the UK hit record temperatures yesterday (19/7).

What can people expect? The Met Office says those in the affected warning areas can expect:

    • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
    • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
    • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost

The warning is in place until this evening. Full advice issued by The Met Office can be found here.

Thunderstorms often follow high temperatures in the UK. Yesterday, local fire services declared a major incident. A spokesperson said: "We have declared a major incident due to high demand across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes."

"We will not be attending Automatic Fire Alarms. Please only call us if it is an emergency."

In a major incident in Milton Keynes, a nursery and three homes were destroyed in a large fire which took 15 appliances and crew from across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue Services to fight.
