Thousands of pounds donated to help Milton Keynes schoolboy complete bucket list after being diagnosed with rare brain tumour

Thousands of pounds have been donated to allow a local schoolboy to check off his bucket list after being diagnosed with a rare brain tumour.

Kai Robinson lives in Milton Keynes with his family, and just a few weeks ago he fell ill, complaining of headaches and dizziness.

The schoolboy's health soon started to deteriorate in the following days so his parents took him to A&E, where he was referred for an urgent CT scan.

Following the scan, it was discovered that a "sizeable mass" had developed on Kai's lower brain region. He was then referred to John Radcliffe Hosptial in Oxford and his parents were told that he had not one, but two brain tumours.

"Things all happened very quickly after this," said Kai's mum, Kerry. "The next morning Kai was taken down for brain surgery to attempt to remove the larger tumour. After 9 long agonising hours, we finally got the call that Kai was in recovery and the surgery had gone well.

"Kai amazed us with how well he coped with his operation and within days he was up and walking around with a smile on his face. We were able to bring Kai home to continue his recovery surrounded by his loving family but unfortunately, we still had more bad news to come."

Sadly, the family of five found out that Kai has an incredibly rare germ cell tumour that has spread to other parts of the brain.

Kai's mum Kerry says that this cancer is difficult to treat and will need aggressive chemotherapy followed by 2 months of radiotherapy to the whole brain and spine.

Kai has been given a 50% chance of survival, and if he survives doctors say that he will have serious long-term effects including learning difficulties, infertility, and the growth of his spine will permanently stop.

The family now wish to stay positive and "make the most of the time" that they have left with Kai. That is why they have set up a GoFundMe page, to raise funds to "squeeze in as much joy as [they] can into his life".

Kerry says that Kai has some big dreams, and is especially interested in plants and wildlife. She explained: "He dreams of being able to plant more trees around the world and his ultimate dream would be to plant trees in the Amazon rainforest and design buildings that are at one with nature."

The fundraiser has online been online for just a couple of days, and the community has already rallied around to raise over £3,000 for Kai.

"We are both self-employed and don't want a lack of funds to prevent Kai from doing everything on his bucket list," Kerry added.

"We know that times are difficult for everyone at the moment, so please if you are not in a position to be able to donate help us by sharing to raise awareness for Kai's cause."
