Thomas Connolly Estate Agents share the effects of lockdown on the housing market in Milton Keynes

The local estate agents, with properties for sale and to rent in MK, provide an insight into the local property market during and post-lockdown.

Thomas Connolly Estate Agents have shared what the global pandemic meant for their local business in MK:

"A year that nobody will reflect on fondly. Darkness and devastation have touched every corner of the globe.

As so many organisations around the country were forced to do during lockdown, Thomas Connolly Estate Agents also had to furlough a large proportion of the team this year. So, like our counterparts in business, we were faced with two options. Crumble and fall. Or, like the phoenix from the ashes, we could rise, stronger and more determined than ever before.

As a professional organisation we would not furlough the whole team, so a skeleton staff was retained to operate the lettings arm of the company. These members of staff could not have more perfectly encompassed what we, Thomas Connolly Estate Agents, stand for as an organisation. Global pandemic or not, they were on hand to respond to all of our clients’ queries, questions and property management concerns. As the markets floundered, and the country was locked down, we strove to provide our clients with the same high levels of professionalism, service and support that have become synonymous with the Thomas Connolly Estate Agents brand.

As one of the few estate agencies to remain open and operational during the lockdown period, we were soon inundated with enquiries from landlords and potential tenants; people were delighted to see that, within COVID-19 restrictions, we could still facilitate moves and deals. This word-of-mouth led to an increase in instructions of empty properties, and so the lettings department boomed from strength to strength. This afforded us an astonishing and record-breaking three months for the lettings arm of our organisation, during which time we let in excess of 45 new rental instructions each month.

As lockdown restrictions begin to ease, and people look towards a brighter new future, we’ve capitalised on the momentum that we built throughout the darkest points of this year, allowing our company to become the vessel on which the people of Milton Keynes take the journey to their new homes. With this in mind, the sales team have now returned from their three months of furlough recharged, relaxed, rejuvenated and ready to continue to build on the successes of the lettings team during lockdown. They’ve smashed through the glass ceiling, leaving behind the cloud of COVID and reaching towards the blue skies of a brighter property market. Not only have the team kickstarted the business post-lockdown, they have doubled their sales targets on July and August.

Focussed on this brighter future, and with a stable and prosperous property market emerging, Thomas Connolly Estate Agents have increased our office space, evolving from a shared office space, we have now taken over the entire unit. As companies around the country are adapting to new ways of working and streamlining their operations, we are increasing our workforce. Now it is onwards and upwards for Thomas Connolly Estate Agents, with all of our attention channelled into the growth of our business, and increasing the achieved numbers for our clients.

2020 has, undoubtedly, been a difficult year, but when it presented us with hurdles, we jumped them. Difficulties, we overcame them. Problems, we found solutions. And, as a company, it has made us stronger, more effective and more determined than ever before. So now, we look to the future. Investing in our organisation. Investing in Milton Keynes. Investing in you, our community."
