Historic Milton Keynes-based carnival cancelled for the second year running due to COVID-19

A historic carnival, which takes place in Newport Pagnell, has been cancelled for the second year running due to the pandemic.

The Newport Pagnell Carnival launched over 60 years ago is a two-day event that sees residents enjoy a parade through the town, and plenty of entertainment in the Riverside Meadow.

Thousands of supporters line the streets cheering, and then make their way down to one of Newport Pagnell's largest parks for food, drinks, funfair rides, and to experience music on the Main Stage.

The Newport Pagnell Carnival is a highly anticipated event in the yearly calendar, but sadly it has been cancelled for the second year running due to the ongoing pandemic.

In 2020, the Newport Pagnell Carnival was set to mark its 60th anniversary with the theme '60 years of memories'. This was pushed back to 2021, with organisers getting their ideas at the ready, but unfortunately, the birthday celebrations have been delayed once more.

The cancellation of this year's carnival, which was due to be held on 3rd and 4th July, was announced today (27/1) by the committee.

A spokesperson for the Newport Pagnell Carnival said: "We know this will come as an enormous disappointment to all and the organising team shares that disappointment. It is too big a challenge to invest the large amount of work, time, and money needed to organise the Carnival when the summer situation remains unknown.

"The team are keeping busy in the background and we are working on some big plans for our belated 60th birthday. We are also optimistic in the hope that we can bring you some small events later this year to keep the Carnival spirit alive"

"Stay safe, stay indoors, and keep being kind to one another."
