Third new transmitter for MKFM boosts FM signal in Wolverton and Stony Stratford

Listeners to MKFM in Wolverton, Stony Stratford and the North-Western estates of Milton Keynes will notice an improvement to their FM signal from today.

The radio station began test transmissions today on a new frequency of 95.0FM with a brand-new third transmitter located in Wolverton.

Last year, MKFM installed their second FM transmitter in Bletchley on 102.1FM – in addition to the main service on 106.3FM from the City Centre.

Car radios will now automatically switch between the three frequencies to ensure the best quality signal across the Borough of Milton Keynes.

Listener research has shown that MKFM is now likely to have the largest listener share in Milton Keynes with FM still being the main way people choose to listen to the station.

Digital Radio listening is still seeing strong growth with the radio station also today re-committing to DAB Digital Radio stereo broadcasting, as well as online and on smart speakers.

Next year will mark 10 years since MKFM was part of the launch of the brand-new local DAB Digital Radio service across Herts, Beds and Bucks.

Darren Dorrington, CEO at MKFM, said: “The pandemic has shown that we were right to ensure Milton Keynes continued to have a local radio station when we launched our campaign to bring local radio back in 2011.”

“We have invested heavily in DAB Digital Radio for almost 10 years and the upgrade to our FM transmitters continues to assist listeners who haven’t yet made the switch to Digital Radio.”

“We are also pleased to renew our DAB Digital Radio contract to continue broadcasting MKFM in high-quality stereo across Herts, Beds and Bucks so listeners who travel outside of Milton Keynes can continue to take us with them.”

MKFM.com is also continuing to see major growth with over 395,000 unique users in December 2021 with our local news pages being a key driver of the growth.
