The rules from Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Aldi on shopping during lockdown in Milton Keynes

As Milton Keynes enters a second lockdown, supermarkets across the area have shared details of the rules customers must follow to keep everyone safe.

Supermarkets and convenience stores are allowed to remain open throughout the lockdown as they are classed as 'essential', along with a number of other retailers - you can see a list of chain stores staying open here.

As with the first lockdown, customers are being encouraged to take note of safety precautions in store to ensure their shopping trip is as smooth as possible.

    Queue systems

Queue systems have now been re-implemented at a number of supermarkets in Milton Keynes.

Tesco and Aldi have implemented a 'traffic light' system which tells shoppers when it is safe to enter the store.

Sainsbury's and Lidl have a member of staff at the entrance to their stores informing customers when it is safe to enter.

Asda stores will now have 'coronavirus marshals' at the entrance to their stores to assist customers.

    Face coverings

As was the case previously, you are required by law to wear a face covering in supermarkets unless you are exempt.

Asda say that customers who do not have a face covering will be given the opportunity to purchase a packet of disposable masks at the entrance.

    Sanitiser and cleaning stations

Most supermarkets across Milton Keynes are offering hand sanitiser and cleaning stations for trollies and baskets at the entrance to stores.

Customers are being encouraged to use these to help control the spread of coronavirus on surfaces.

Contactless payments and 'Scan As You Shop'

You can now pay for goods up to the value of £45 using contactless payments.

In addition, supermarkets like Sainsbury's, Tesco, Waitrose and Asda offer the option for you to scan your own items as you go to reduce contact time at the checkouts.

    Priority access for NHS workers

Some supermarkets are offering 'priority' hours for NHS workers.

Morrisons are offering this scheme from 6am to 7am Monday to Saturday and from 9.30am to 10am on a Sunday.

At Sainsbury's, priority will be given to NHS and care workers from 7.30am to 8am Monday to Saturday and elderly or vulnerable customers between 8am and 9am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
