The Parks Trusts offer details of upcoming outdoor spring events in Milton Keynes

After many events had to be postponed over the course of the last year, the Parks Trust is hoping that when lockdown restrictions begin to end they can resume activities as normal.

From April onwards, the Parks Trust are planning to host multiple outdoor activities, for a variety of age groups, at Willen Lake throughout the course of 2021.

On Twitter, the Parks Trust posted: "We can’t wait for the 2021 season at Willen Lake.

"The team have worked hard to create a fun-filled activity programme which features new additions such as sunrise paddleboarding and practice sessions for windsurfing and sailing."

The full list of upcoming events is as follows:

    Sunrise Paddleboarding

Over the past year and during the previous lockdowns, the popularity of paddleboarding grew. In 2020 the Parks Trust offered a variety of paddleboarding sessions from Discover Paddleboarding to the weekly evening Paddleboarding club. In 2021, they have also introduced a Sunrise Paddleboarding club which takes place every Sunday morning starting at 7am. In these sessions, you'll be able to get out onto the water and have the lake all to yourself.

    Two-hour practice sessions

In 2020 the Parks Trust also introduced two-hour Wakeboarding sessions which proved to be a hit, so for this year if you're an experienced Windsurfer or Sailor, there will be new two-hour practice sessions for you too! These sessions will allow you to get out onto the lake and practice the skills you want, with helpful instructors available if you need any further tips or advice.

    Discover Canoeing

For the past couple of years, there have been no beginners canoeing sessions available, but after a two-year hiatus, Discover Canoeing is back! You can take part in this 90-minute session that will teach you the basic skills required for canoeing. This session is suitable for people aged over 8 years and is taught by a British Canoeing coach.

    Wakeboarding Memberships

Although Wakeboarding isn’t new to Willen Lake, the Parks Trust is encouraging regular riders to renew their Wakeboarding Membership for 2021, as for a limited time only there is 10% off memberships. You can purchase either a seasonal adult or junior membership that runs from April to October each year.

    Kid's clubs

New for this year is the Junior Windsurfing club, if you’re aged 8-15 years then why not join? Running from June to September every other Wednesday this is the ideal opportunity to learn and practice your windsurfing skills.

    Qualifications

If your goal for 2021 is to learn something new, then the watersports qualifications are something to look into. You can pick from our one-day Paddle Start Awards for both Kayaking and Paddleboarding issued by British Canoeing to our RYA two-day Sailing qualifications, or even try your hand at our RYA Windsurfing courses.

    Brand-new Watersports and Café building

Finally, the Parks Trust will be opening their brand-new watersports and café building for the 2021 season. This dedicated space will house all the watersports activities, new changing rooms and toilet facilities and reception. It will also be home to a fantastic new bar and kitchen.
