The parks, lakes and landscapes of Milton Keynes are cared for by an independent charity – The Parks Trust – and, like many charities, it is supported by volunteers.
Last year, 239 local volunteers notched up a staggering 10,146 hours working in the city’s parks and last Friday night (24 February 2023), their incredible work was recognised at an awards ceremony.
Taking place at The Chrysalis Theatre inside Camphill MK Community, the awards event saw eight volunteers take to the stage and pick up prizes in a range of categories.
Commenting on the awards, Events and Community Engagement Manager, Julie Dawes, said, “Our incredible volunteers donated almost even more time in 2022 than in the previous year. That increase reflects growing demands on our charity to care for MK’s green spaces and create ways for the community to enjoy them.
“I am grateful to all volunteers and thrilled that June has been chosen as our Volunteer of the Year. She joined us in 2018 and is extremely dedicated, driven by a love of the environment and community.
Last year, June gave us over 300 hours of her time. Her commitment is clear for all to see, and she approaches every volunteering opportunity with a friendly smile. We all love working with her.”
