The Mayor of Milton Keynes takes on a challenge with a view

As the Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor James Lancaster gets invited to try all sorts of things – but abseiling from The National Lift Tower will be one of the most memorable!

James abseiled down the 400ft tower to raise funds for his chosen charity, Camphill MK.

“It was one of the most terrifying things I've ever done,” he told MKFM, “But I had a fantastic team around me, and the support of those contributing was brilliant.”

    The worst part?

“That was getting over the edge at the top,” he said, admitting that he had his leg pushed over to encourage him to get started – and the abseil took under 15 minutes.

Time well spent considering that his efforts have so far raised £1575 for Camphill MK.

The money will raise essential funds for adults with learning disabilities and autism.

“I was invited to take a look around the site, and fell in love with the place,” he said, explaining why he chose Camphill as his main charity for his term as Mayor.

“It's a really nice place, and they work with other charities in a great way, too. I am a loud and proud ambassador,” he added.
