The data showing Milton Keynes is one of the places to benefit most from 'Eat Out to Help Out'

New data has revealed that Milton Keynes is one of the top ten places in the UK to have benefited most from the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme.

Research from Centre for Cities analysed footfall increases in towns and cities across the country on Monday to Wednesday evenings.

It found that footfall in Milton Keynes was 18% higher in early August during these evenings than in late July.

The data means our city saw the ninth largest increase in footfall of any UK town or city during the start of the campaign.

Bournemouth, Southend, Dundee, Doncaster and Peterborough made up the top five areas with the largest increase.

Meanwhile, areas including Aberdeen, Basildon, Aldershot, London and Barnsley saw little or no change in footfall.

Details of the footfall increase back up some of the anecdotal evidence reported during the promotion - including the Milton Keynes resident who tried to book a table at 21 different pubs and restaurants across the city during the scheme but all were fully booked.

The discount scheme, which gives people 50% off food and non-alcoholic drinks on Monday to Wednesday up to a value of £10 per person, is set to come to an end next Monday.
