Thank You MK celebrates local charities and community groups

This advent, Milton Keynes Community Foundation are launching a calendar to say thank you to some of the Voluntary and Community Groups who have really stepped up this year to support the most vulnerable in our community. Sponsored by City Fibre, they will be opening a virtual advent window each morning on MKFM.

Behind each window, MK Community Foundation highlight some wonderful examples of projects that groups have been running to continue to help people in this time of need. They cannot name everyone, so they invite people to share the window each day, using hashtag #ThankYouMK and tag other groups who have contributed to the days theme.

Milton Keynes Community Foundation usually holds a reception during the summer to celebrate this important sector but this, as with many things, was not possible this year and they had to think about a different way to recognise the tireless work that has been carried out before and during lockdown.

The Foundation have been overwhelmed with the support from the local community to their emergency appeal, but there is still much to do. If you can help this Christmas, each window will have a text to donate button so that you can say thank you too. Alternatively, you may choose to donate directly to the emergency appeal.

Ian Revell, Chief Executive at Milton Keynes Community Foundation, says: “We are delighted to celebrate our sector in this way. Without your hard work and dedication to supporting vulnerable local people, Milton Keynes wouldn’t be the city it is.”

Jean Gowin, Cityfibre explains why they have chosen to sponsor this project: “Supporting the local community is hugely important to CityFibre and after what’s been a really tough year, we need to take the time to acknowledge and say thank you to all those groups and individuals who have gone over and above for others.”

Visit www.thankyoumk.co.uk and listen to MKFM each morning to open a new window and join Milton Keynes Community Foundation in celebrating our local heroes – together we can get #ThankYouMK trending!
