Thames Valley Police’s response to HMICFRS report on Crime Data Integrity

TVP confirms that it has received the HMICFRS report into its Crime Data Integrity audit and inspection.

Thames Valley Police fully accepts the grading by HMICFRS and will be addressing the concerns raised in the report and the recommendations put forward to improve.

Commenting on the report John Campbell, Deputy Chief Constable, said: “This reports makes for unwelcome reading especially for a force that performs so well when measured in terms of our effectiveness, efficiency and legitimacy.

“We accept the findings of HMICFRS and will be working hard over the coming months to ensure that we address their concerns. The matters subject to review were recorded as ‘incidents’ rather than crimes, but there is no suggestion that we failed to respond appropriately to the calls or to deal with the matters in hand.

“I am pleased that HMICFRS confirmed that they found no issues of unethical behaviour and I can assure the communities of Thames Valley that every day, every officer is working hard to keep you safe from harm and to protect victims of crime.”

HMICFRS carried out their CDI audit and inspection for Thames Valley Police in November/ December 2017. During the audit HMICFRS examined almost 2000 incident records and over 500 directly recorded crimes. They also audited other records including modern slavery crimes and referrals, transfer/ crime cancellations records and child/ adult protection records.

Thames Valley Police was graded by HMICFRS as ‘Outstanding’ for Efficiency (November 2017), ‘Good’ for Legitimacy (December 2017), and the report on Effectiveness will be published in March (the force was graded ‘Good’ for Effectiveness in 2016).
