Tesco charges customers TWICE after 'technical error' - here's what to do

Angry Tesco shoppers have complained after card payments made in store at the supermarket were taken twice over the past week.

Affected customers saw an error message on the card machine when making a purchase so they paid again thinking the initial transaction hadn't gone through.

Thousands of customers may have been double-charged following the 'technical error' but Tesco it's working to reverse mistaken transactions.

Tesco concedes that this latest error is UK-wide and may impact shoppers using any of its different types of store, including Express, Extra, Metro, fuel stations and superstores - although it says not all shops are impacted and online orders aren't affected either.

Tesco won't say exactly how many customers have been hit by the issue, but it could be thousands across the UK.

Tesco promises to automatically refund customers within a day, although it may take longer for your bank or card provider to process the transaction.

They advise to check your account over the coming weeks to see if you've been double-charged - particularly as Tesco hasn't confirmed if the problem is now fixed.

If you've been hit by fees as a result - for example, you've gone into an unarranged overdraft - contact Tesco's customer service team - it says it will look into complaints on a case-by-case basis.
