A two million pound investment in the form of a new community centre is one step closer to being built, following the appointment of a contractor to design and build the new centre.
On Tuesday 28th May, Milton Keynes Councillor Moriah Priestley, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Community Partnerships, agreed to the appointment of the McAvoy Group to design and build the much needed new Community Centre.
At the next Cabinet meeting on Tuesday 4th June, the funding for the community centre will be increased to £1,950,000. The new Tattenhoe Park Community centre will serve the football pitches that are already there.
The report highlights that the preferred option contributes to the Council’s corporate vision to create a ‘healthy place’, in that the new facility will serve the playing pitches attached to the site and support the nearby linear park that is popular with joggers, cyclists and walkers.
The local school will also be involved with the new facility, as potential users of the building for wrap-around care services.
The new community centre will be a modular build that falls in line with Council policy to create a greener, more sustainable city.
Cllr Moriah Priestley said: “Tattenhoe Park is a relatively new and growing area on the West flank of Milton Keynes."
"The new community centre shows Labour-led Milton Keynes Council’s commitment to providing excellent community facilities across Milton Keynes. I am pleased to appoint the McAvoy group to design and build the new centre."
Cllr Priestley added: "I am also pleased that the funding for the centre is being increased £1,950,000. It shows our commitment to high-quality build and design.”
She concluded: “As the Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Community Partnerships, I aim to ensure all residents of Milton Keynes will have access to good quality community centres, ones which are run by local people for local people. The new Tattenhoe Park Centre highlights our commitment.”
Anthony Brown, Labour councillor for the Tattenhoe Park area, has been pushing for the building of the community centre for over four years.
Cllr Brown said: “I am delighted that following several years of pressure, our well-run Milton Keynes Council has been able to invest nearly £2 million in the Tattenhoe Park area."
He concluded: "The new Community centre will be completed in September 2020. It will offer a great facility for the growing community here to use.”
