Successful International Geocaching Festival held in Milton Keynes

MK's week-long Geocaching festival was hailed as a huge success, despite the rain.

Organised by the mega:MK committee, the series of free events were designed to showcase the City’s parks, open spaces and history under the tag line “more than concrete cows and roundabouts”.

It was the first time this event had been held in the area, in it’s 16 year history and local residents were joined by attendees from as far away as USA, Australia and Zimbabwe to enjoy a number of diverse events across the city.

Highlights of the week included taking over The National Museum of Computing.

Jacqui Garrod, the Director of TNMoC said “What a fantastically well organised event that brought our museum to life and we would welcome them back any time”.

Bradwell Abbey’s community garden benefited from an influx of visitors maintaining beds and tidying the site.

The Blue Lagoon Nature Reserve had a tidy up and restored the information sign, Laura Clancy of MKCC said “Thanks to all the amazing volunteers that came and did such a great job”.

Events were also held in Stony Stratford, Emberton, Olney and the group also had a visit from Milton Keynes based charity UK Astronomy who gave a great talk on the solar system.

The Committee would also like to thank The Parks Trust and Scots Sports & Social Club for their valuable assistance. The festival was supported by the MK Community Foundation.
