Success for local MP as Government announces £1.5bn lifeline for arts sector

Milton Keynes North MP Ben Everitt is delighted the Government has listened after a £1.5 billion package for the arts sector was announced last night (5/7).

The local MP has been campaigning for financial support for theatres, museums and live music venues which are still unable to re-open due to coronavirus, including writing a letter to Oliver Dowden, the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

£880 million of the funding will be in the form of grants, while there will be loans, targeted support and capital investment.

Ben commented: “I’m absolutely delighted the Government has listened to concerns from the arts sector and acted with a huge package of support.

“We all know how important our arts and culture are to millions of people across the country, and especially here in MK where we have a thriving sector full of live music venues, theatres and galleries.”
