Students raise £12k to fight global hunger with Milton Keynes charity World Vision

Imperial College’s Public Awareness & Social Service society marked a decade of support for global hunger by holding their 10th Hunger Challenge - raising money for international children’s charity World Vision, based here in the new city.

“Famine24” is ICPASS’ annual Flagship event held over two days where participants from all over the country fast for 24 hours.

In addition to raising funds, the aim is to raise awareness of the issues of hunger and malnutrition globally, issues that World Vision addresses through its community-based solutions.

Each year ICPASS plans a series of activities at the event, and over 10 years the event has raised over £12,000 for World Vision’s hunger response work worldwide.

“It is inspiring to know that young people are taking a global outlook and a responsibility to take action for other people like themselves,” said Louise Amodio, Senior Strategic Communications Manager at World Vision UK.

“The money raised will go towards our vital work, and we are passionate about addressing hunger and malnutrition for the world’s young people, living in countries where the conditions are more challenging and the hurdles are higher.”

Every 10 seconds, a child dies from malnutrition. World Vision is continuing to address hunger and malnutrition globally and is committed to reaching 30 million people across the 31 countries of most concern - where children are one step away from famine or living with acute malnutrition and hunger.
