Memories and stories from Holocaust survivors were brought to life for a younger generation at Denbigh School.
In a moving and thought-provoking Performance and Drama Workshop led by the critically acclaimed theatre company, ‘Voices of the Holocaust’. Denbigh’s students watched the Company’s groundbreaking award-winning Production of ‘Kindness: A Legacy of The Holocaust’, based on the harrowing but inspirational testimony of Holocaust survivor Susan Pollack OBE. The Production was an unforgettable experience for both students and teachers, conveying the key message that we must learn from past atrocities to ensure they are not repeated. Through knowledge, we can create a future where kindness is at the core of all we do.
Denbigh’s GCSE Drama students were also able to take part in a Drama Workshop led by Company Director Cate Hollis, through which they developed their creative and performance skills along with their understanding of the events of the Holocaust. This enriching experience will contribute to their GCSE studies and deepen their engagement with both History and Drama.
Mr Steed, Denbigh’s Headteacher said ‘Thank you to the actors and Director of ‘Voices of the Holocaust’ whose visit allowed us to raise awareness within our student community about the trauma children faced during the Holocaust. We recognise the importance of ensuring that the younger generation is aware of these terrible events because as time passes there are fewer survivors able to share their experiences with us. Events such as these ensure that their stories and memories will never be forgotten’.
