Stony Stratford Tennis Club serving up ace online lessons to schools

Stony Stratford Tennis Club have been putting on weekly online lessons to school children in Milton Keynes.

John Cavill, from the tennis club and who runs the online lessons, tells MKFM more about the content:

"My 4 year old daughter went to online learning for the first time, and after a couple of weeks I thought I’d offer her class something different with a tennis session. With this idea I thought that more children could benefit so I contacted our local School Sports Partnership Manager who was delighted to receive weekly 30 minute sessions to pass onto Primary schools in Milton Keynes.

"The school videos go out to 90 schools in Milton Keynes so the reach is around 18,000 children. Our Facebook Live sessions on Saturdays at 9am had 102 views during the last session and this is growing each week, so I welcome everyone to come and join in.

"We work on movement, ball skills and racket skills but with the use of everyday items around the house like socks bundled up into a ball and frying pans as rackets! Working on coordination and balance are also massive parts to the session which are loads of fun."

It's been five years since Andy Murray won his second Wimbledon title, so we asked John if we could we be seeing a future tennis star from MK?

"You never know! We’ve got some top 100 players in their age group at the club who are working really hard and being role models for the next generation.

"Whether they go professional, get a US College scholarship or enjoy socialising with their friends, the true benefits of tennis are the values it delivers like effort, concentration and positivity, which help develop children into wonderful adults."

You can tune in to John's lessons by clicking here every Saturday morning from 9am.
