Stars align in Milton Keynes for two local charities

Charity astronomy evening to support life-changing community work.

Two local charities are teaming up for an out-of-this-world evening in Milton Keynes this May. The UK Astronomy Evening, hosted at the Chrysalis Theatre on Friday, 30th May 2025, offers the public a unique opportunity to explore the cosmos while supporting two organisations making a tangible difference in people’s lives.

All proceeds from the event will benefit UK Astronomy and Camphill Milton Keynes, two grassroots charities rooted in education, inclusion, and empowerment.

“This is more than a night learning about our universe, it's a chance to give back to two local charities doing extraordinary work,” said Ross Hockham BCAe, founder of UK Astronomy. “We’re passionate about making science accessible, and this event lets us inspire people while helping others too.”

    Supporting Local Impact

    • UK Astronomy is a volunteer-run charity founded in Milton Keynes that brings the wonders of the universe to schools, community groups, and the public. Through public stargazing events and outreach sessions, the team sparks curiosity and confidence in learners of all ages.

    • Camphill Milton Keynes Communities provides supported living and meaningful work opportunities to adults with learning disabilities and autism. Their approach is rooted in dignity, creativity, and inclusion, creating a sense of purpose and belonging for over 70 residents.

    A Celestial Night for All

The evening will feature two engaging talks by Ross Hockham, who will take guests on a spectacular journey through space. Using a mix of stunning imagery from NASA, amateur astronomers, and his own collection along with interactive inflatable planets, Ross will make the vast universe feel wonderfully close to home.

    The programme includes:

    • Talk 1: A guided tour of our solar system, from the Sun to Pluto, packed with fascinating facts and fun props to help families visualise the scale and wonder of space.

    • Talk 2: A session to help you spot celestial objects from your own backyard. Learn how to use just your eyes, binoculars, or a telescope to find stars, nebulae, double stars, galaxies and more. Perfect for families and beginners.

Please note: This will be the same talk as previous UK Astronomy evenings

A licensed bar will be available in the break.

This event comes at a time when local charities are under pressure. With rising costs and increasing demand for their services, fundraising efforts like this are essential to maintaining support for vulnerable groups and inclusive education across Milton Keynes and beyond.
