Share your story and celebrate neurodiversity with the Umbrella Project Milton Keynes.
Since March 2025, a striking canopy of 400 rainbow-coloured umbrellas has brightened the Boulevard at Midsummer Place Shopping Centre, inviting thousands of visitors to experience a joyful celebration of neurodiversity in Milton Keynes.
This inspiring installation will remain on display until the end of September. But this is only the beginning of a city-wide commitment to embracing and promoting neuro-inclusion. Real, lasting change begins with people and their stories.
To ensure the Umbrella Project becomes a true catalyst for cultural transformation, we are inviting members of the community to share their personal experiences with neurodiversity. Whether you are neurodivergent, know someone who is, or simply want to share how neurodiversity has shaped your perspective, your voice matters.
Your story could help:
· Bust myths and challenge misconceptions
· Celebrate the richness of neurodiverse experiences
· Encourage open and inclusive conversations
· Inspire others to embrace difference
“We’re incredibly proud to host the MK Umbrella Project here at Midsummer Place,” said Simon Martin, Centre Manager. “This project is about more than a stunning visual display, it’s about championing change, encouraging empathy, and creating a safe space for all members of our community. We hope every visitor leaves with a greater understanding of neurodiversity and a willingness to be part of a more inclusive future.”
One of the individuals who has already shared her story, Skye, said: “Sharing my experience was scary at first, but it felt powerful. For the first time, I felt like people were listening and really seeing me. The Umbrella Project made me feel proud of who I am, and I hope my story helps others feel the same.”
In return for your contribution, you’ll receive one of our exclusive, limited-edition umbrellas currently featured in the Midsummer Place installation. Contributors will be invited to collect their umbrella during the shopping centre’s 25th anniversary celebrations on Saturday, 27th September 2025.
Share your story. Be part of the legacy. Help Milton Keynes become a truly neuro-inclusive city.
