A camp-out by staff at The Brooklands Centre in Newport Pagnell means that music will be back on the menu for members.
The charity has been providing care in the community for the over 55's since the 1950s, and runs a variety of groups and activities throughout the week for local residents.
When the music centre broke, two enterprising members of the team jumped into action; Sandy Payne, chairperson of the committee, and day care manager Sandra Dorrill spent two nights camping out to swell the coffers, and their initiative has raised more than £2700.
“It was a way of raising funds and something a little bit different,” Sandra told MKFM, “It seemed to catch people's attention. We will now be able to afford a new music centre and a few extra things for the members.
Brooklands helps people to retain their independence, and combats social isolation.
“We want to improve people's lives,” Sandra added, “We don't want people to feel isolated and lonely, and we want to show that even though you might be getting older, you can still have a bit of fun.”
