Spike in tool thefts from vehicles in Milton Keynes

Thames Valley Police says there has been a spike in thefts of tools from cars and vans and has offered advice on how to protect tools.

Vehicle crime accounts for a fifth of all recorded crime in the UK, and unfortunately, there is a current spike in Milton Keynes.

The Police have advised that all tools be removed from vehicles at night, but those tools that can't be should be marked with a registration number or postcode with an ultraviolet pen.

There are other marking tools on the market and marked tools are less desirable for potential thieves as they are harder to sell on.

Owners should take photos and note down serial numbers of items of value, and register them on property registration websites.

Cameras and locked cabinets could also be considered as further preventative measures.

Further details about preventing vehicle crime and suggested retailers can be found on the Thames Valley Police website.
