Snow warning for Milton Keynes extended by 12 hours

The Met Office has decided to extend its yellow weather warning for the Buckinghamshire area, with some snow expected early next week.

Earlier this week, the Met Office initially reported that there would be snowy showers and icy conditions from Monday midnight to Wednesday morning. This warning has since been revised to just snow and has been extended to the end of Wednesday evening.

The Met Office have come to the conclusion that the accumulation of snow is now the primary hazard to those travelling.

Their warning now reads: "Frequent snow showers may lead to travel disruption in places. Some places are likely to miss the showers altogether.

"Snow showers will feed off the North Sea into many northern and eastern areas of the UK. Whilst some areas in the warning area will remain largely dry, some persistent bands of showers are likely to develop in places.

"Daily accumulations of 2-5 cm are probable for some, with 10-15 cm plausible in areas where showers merge into more organised and prolonged spells of snow.

"Some icy stretches are possible overnight, mainly where melting snow during the afternoon has not a chance to dry out before freezing overnight, although snow is likely to be more prevalent."

It is currently advised that all those not undertaking essential journeys should stay home. For the travel guidance issued by the government, please click here
