Snow causes major disruption to testing as just 47 coronavirus cases recorded in Milton Keynes today

There have been 47 coronavirus cases recorded in Milton Keynes today (26/1) as snowy conditions meant just one test centre was open yesterday (25/1).

The main test centre in Milton Keynes and the smaller site in Bletchley were closed due to frozen pipes, so residents only had the option of the new Wolverton site.

As a result, there were 47 new cases recorded - taking the total to 16,905 since the start of the pandemic.

There were ten further deaths announced at Milton Keynes Hospital today. Four deaths occurred on 22nd Jan, three on 23rd Jan, two on 24th Jan, and one on 25th Jan.

Nationally, there were an additional 20,089 people tested positive today with 1,631 deaths within 28 days of a positive test.

This means that over 100,000 people (100,162) in the UK have died after catching coronavirus, just under a year after the virus was first discovered in the UK.

The government figures were released after the Office for National Statistics (ONS) - which uses a different counting method - this morning said the number had already passed 100,000.
