The Mayor of Olney is encouraging the community to spend local this Valentine’s Day, to help small independents and businesses.
“Many are struggling to stay afloat and January is always a slow month for our traders - so together let’s help safeguard their future when and where we can,” said Cllr Debbie Whitworth.
“Valentine’s Day is the day of love with its most recognisable signs of affection being hugs and kisses However, there are other ways to show love, kindness, and care, too.
“Showing our community that we love and care builds a stronger sense of pride and respect in our beautiful town.
“Try waving to a stranger with a ‘hi’ and a smile, leave a single flower or a bar of chocolate on the doorstep of your neighbour or anyone you know lives alone,” she said.
“Give someone a call you’ve not heard of in a while and ask how they are.
“Small businesses are vulnerable right now so give them a ‘positive’ review when you can and if you’ve received good customer service let them know and thank the individual face to face.
“Showing our community that we love and care builds a stronger sense of pride and respect in our beautiful market town.
"If you fancy going out for a drink or to dine this Valentines - do remember you don’t need to travel afar - Only has an amazing array of cafes, pubs and restaurants so do please check them out - the hospitality sector are struggling too!”
