Second EU referendum campaigners accused by local MP of graffitiing pavements in Old Farm Park

Local MP for Milton Keynes South, Iain Stewart, has accused members of the movement for a second EU referendum in Milton Keynes of graffitiing pavements in Old Farm Park with their message.

Mr Stewart tweeted to the Milton Keynes Liberal Democrats saying "Someone has spray painted '#PeoplesVote' on pavements in Old Farm Park. Suggest you find out which of your colleagues in the movement did it and get them to clear it up."

He went on to suggest that the campaigners 'get over' losing the referendum in June 2016 and 'respect the 'Democrats' part' of the parties name.

Responding to the allegations, the Milton Keynes Liberal Democrats tweeted to say: "If I find that anyone has been spary painting anywhere I'll tell them to clear it up. If you have evidence showing it is a Lib Dem let us know. There are pro-EU campaigners in many parties, including the Tory party. We're not responsible for what everyone does!"

Mr Stewart's Twitter biography states that he does not 'generally use Twitter for casework or debate'.

It comes as second referendum campaigners in the city have been on the streets with the 'Brexitometer' which they claim shows Milton Keynes is turning against Brexit.

Milton Keynes backed leaving the European Union by 52% to 48% in the national referendum, and in line with the national result.

Britain is set to formally leave the European Union on 29th March 2019, after the two-year formal process to leave was enacted in March last year.
