Specialist camp weekend planned for city’s entire movement.
More than 170 Scouts are expected to gather at a Milton Keynes campsite this weekend for an annual survival gathering.
They will be putting their teamwork and endurance skills to the test as they take on 'Fortress' – an overnight camp with a difference at the Quarries campsite, in Cosgrove.
The boy and girl Scouts, aged from 10, will have to build their own shelters to sleep in, cook themed meals outdoors, and take on a range of challenges designed to stretch their creativity, resilience and independence on Saturday and Sunday.
This year’s camp will also feature inflatables, support from MK Play Association, a youth team forum and a fiery outdoor cooking challenge.
Base for the weekend, The Quarries, is the home of Milton Keynes scouting, and will come alive with activity as teams of Scouts and Explorers – older Scouts aged 14 to 18 – work together for two days of learning, fun and friendship in the open air.
“Scouts have their own district camps, but this is the time when, once a year, Scouts from across the whole of Milton Keynes come together,” said Mike Gibson, the programme’s lead volunteer.
“They will have to find and build their own shelter, and tackle team challenges like fire lighting, inflatables and more.”
