Residents rally to save much-loved green space in Milton Keynes

A community is rallying together in a bid to save a much-loved piece of green land in Milton Keynes.

Residents in the Kingsmead and Oxley Park area of Milton Keynes are coming together to save a piece of green space from becoming a grid road extension, under plans submitted to Buckinghamshire Council and Milton Keynes City Council by Crest Nicholson.

Earlier this year, Crest Nicholson announced its plans for Shenley Park on a site between Milton Keynes and Whaddon, which was allocated for development in the adopted Vale of Aylesbury Local Plan.

According to the planning permission submitted, the housebuilder would build a new link road to the development from the H6 Childs Way, which would see Kingsmead Green turned into part of the city's grid system, if approved.

In a bid to try and save the much-loved piece of land, residents have formed a group named Save Kingsmead Green - STOP H6 Extension - the group has also been backed by local ward Councillor Shazna Muzammil.

You can find the group here.

On Sunday 3rd September, residents rallied together on the park to share their thoughts and express their concerns on the proposed plans.

"We would like to express our deep gratitude to everyone who joined us on Sunday to show their love and support and to continue the fight against the H6 extension," a spokesperson said.

Thank you to these lovely residents for their views on what the Green means to them.

"The ill-conceived plan will only exacerbate the traffic issues, funneling cars from over 1000 new homes into an already congested area during peak hours," Cllr Shazna Muzammil said.

"Moreover, the road will come by plowing through a cherished green space that residents hold dear, the only green space for residents to use. We need more green spaces, not take it all away."

The councillor also says the development could push local GP surgeries 'to the brink'.

Over 1,265 homes would be delivered by 2033 according to the plans, with a minimum of 25% affordable housing.

The development will be the second of those on Buckinghamshire Council’s boundaries to use Milton Keynes' infrastructure, following Salden Chase.

Residents can view the plans at Buckinghamshire Council website and Milton Keynes City Council website.
