Residents of Milton Keynes estate petition for 20mph speed limit

    Campaigners

A fast-growing group of Fishermead residents are campaigning for speed limits to be reduced to 20mph.

Residents in Fishermead, a Milton Keynes estate, are campaigning for a 20mph speed limit to be introduced on the roads.

David Hart, one of the campaign leaders and a resident of Fishermead for more than 30 years, said: “The design of the estate streets mean that in many places cars travel inches away from children on the pavement.

"Research shows that a 20mph speed limit would mean a sevenfold reduction in the change of serious injury compared to 30mph. We just need a majority of residents to sign the petition.”

Tom Bulman, Community Organiser for a project to build the power of Fishermead Citizens, funded by MK Community Foundation, said: “On Saturday we visited more than a hundred houses and flats to gather signatures for the campaign.

"This week we’ll visit more and we’ll be outside the Co-Op on Saturday to get as many people signed up as possible. We hope this campaign will bring the community together to make a difference on Fishermead.”

The petition needs to be submitted by 31st August in order to be accepted for consideration by MK Council this year.
