Residents of festive street in Milton Keynes receive abuse from visitors whilst raising funds for charity

Residents have had to take extra measures after receiving abuse from visitors.

Since first decorating in 2020, Boxberry Gardens, in Walnut Tree, has since been known for its fantastic displays and festive spirit.

Houses on the street have gone all out this year with a huge light display raising money for the Charity Winter Night Shelter MK.

In the past few days, as we get closer to Christmas, residents have been doing all they can to make sure that visitors and parking does not affect their surrounding neighbours. The residents of Boxberry Gardens have been heading out themselves, in full Christmas spirit, to control traffic and usher cars and people into safe spaces.

Unfortunately, some visitors have not been so kind with a spokesperson explaining on Facebook: "As a community we have made the decision that we will publicly shame the vehicle details of anybody that decides shouting abuse or insults at our residents is acceptable. Whilst we hope we do not need to do this, we also hope it deters people from taking such actions towards us."

They continue: "The street and surrounding streets are still homes to people, they’re their safe place to keep themselves. They DO NOT deserve abuse thrown at them and it will not be tolerated anymore."

The street has received lots of support from visitors and Facebook members saying: "It shouldn't be up to residents either to HAVE to organise the traffic when they're already going to so much effort to put the displays up & have their streets affected."

Another said: "This is terrible news, after all your hard work too."

Boxberry residents have since put up large 'no parking' signs on surrounding streets.

A spokesperson said: "Thank you all so much for the words of support on this. Merry Christmas."

You can donate to the street's chosen charity here or keep up to date with what's going on on their Facebook Page.
