Residents invited to discuss unauthorised encampments in Milton Keynes with TVP and council officers

Residents are being invited to attend a meeting to discuss unauthorised encampments in Milton Keynes.

Shenley Brook End and Tattenhoe Parish Council is set to host a meeting to allow residents to discuss unauthorised encampments in the area.

Milton Keynes City Council enforcement officers will be in attendance along with Thames Valley Police.

The meeting will be taking place on Wednesday 13th September at the Parish Office on Wimborne Crescent, Westcroft from 6pm.

Ward Councillor Manish Verma says the meeting comes following requests from residents and is encouraging all residents to attend.

Last month, MKFM reported that ward Councillor James Lancaster met with the Cabinet Member responsible for Community Safety, alongside senior officers of the city council.

Cllr Lancaster raised concerns around the speed encampments can be moved on, what actions can taken to prevent future problems and how the council works with Thames Valley Police.

Councillor James Lancaster has asked that if resident witnesses criminal activity or anti-social behaviour, they should report it directly to TVP via the 101 service.

He also reminded residents not to purchase goods or services from door-to-door salespeople and to report any traders offering such services to the council’s Trading Standards team.

The announcement of the meeting comes after a petition was launched by conservative councillors, urging Milton Keynes City Council to 'put an end' to unauthorised encampments in the Tattenhoe ward.

"Milton Keynes is facing a serious problem – unauthorised encampments are on the rise. As of August 2023, we have had 73 unauthorised encampments in Milton Keynes," the councillor wrote.

"The power to disperse illegal encampments sits with Milton Keynes City Council (MKCC) and Thames Valley Police (TVP).

"Milton Keynes Conservative Councillors have been liaising with the Council and the police as a matter of urgency when each of the illegal incursions that has taken place."
