Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen claimed victory at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix on a day where everything went right.

Verstappen was optimistic after qualifying P2 yesterday and he made the most of a strong start, getting past McLaren's Oscar Piastri by the time they reached Turn 4.

The Dutchman, who had commented on the positive upgrades made to the RB21 this weekend, the started to create space from those behind him - something not seen outside of Japan this season.

The space increased when Piastri was pitted very early, with Verstappen comfortably nine seconds ahead of Lando Norris.

While many drivers were putting early on the medium tyres, Verstappen and Norris stayed out until the McLaren driver drove into the pits.

The following lap saw a Virtual Safety Car brought out after Haas' Esteban Ocon lost power, allowing Verstappen to increase his lead and get a free pit stop as a result.

He remained ahead even after a late, and lengthy, full safety car was brought out after Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli was forced to retire.

At the restart, Verstappen broke away from Piastri, who had climbed to P2 but was on older tyres, and saw out the rest of the race without any real pressure.

The result sees Verstappen pull back within nine points of Norris in the Drivers' Championship, while now being 22 points behind Piastri.

His teammate, Yuki Tsunoda started from the pit lane after needing effectively a new car to be built after yesterday's huge crash.

Tsunoda struggled to get past Haas' Ollie Bearman early on but after the first set of pit stops, he was able to start climbing the grid more comfortably.

He eventually pulled himself up to P10 and held off Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso to claim another point this weekend, which is a great result after the start.
