Red Bull junior star Arvid Lindblad has been awarded an FIA Superlicence before his 18th birthday after the FIA approved the request made by the team.
Lindblad, 17, is having a stellar rookie season in F2, currently sitting third in the standings with 79 points - just eight points behind leader Alex Dunne.
The British-Swedish driver has already claimed two race victories this season with the Barcelona Feature Race and the Jeddah Sprint, the latter of which saw him become the youngest-ever race winner of any kind in F2's history.
Red Bull's biggest hope for the future since Max Verstappen, Lindblad entered the 2025 season already holding enough points for an FIA Superlicence after he won the Formula Regional Oceania Championshop over the winter, prompting the team to apply for special permission to award him the licence that would allow him to participate in Formula 1 sessions this season.
The FIA statement announcing the approval read: "The FIA has received a request to grant a Super Licence to Arvid Lindblad prior to his 18th birthday."
"After considering the information presented in support of this request, the World Council found that the driver has recently and consistently demonstrated outstanding ability and maturity in single-seater formula car competition and therefore approved the request."
It's a similar situation to Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes, who was awarded the Superlicence last season before his 18th birthday, paving the way for his entry into F1 this season.
After demonstrating impressive driving, including a P2 in the Imola Sprint and going on a ten-race point streak that could be extended at the Red Bull Ring Sprint in Austria at the end of this month, it's believed that Lindblad is firmly in consideration for a Formula 1 seat next year with Red Bull's sister team, Racing Bulls.
Lindblad being awarded a Superlicence early will allow Red Bull to use him in Free Practices throughout the year, across both teams, and give him some hands-on experience behind the wheel of F1 cars in preparation for an expected promotion next season.
